Supported by Prince Claus fund- this is a compilation album of five different traditional musicians from Sierra Leone. Neneh is from Bo and plays his own hand made guitar and writes and sings his songs. Alicious is from Kenema and he too plays his own hand made instrument. In his case a drum. He plays various forms of percussion. Isata started out as a dancer but after she had to flee the war she took up singing and song writing. Mustapha is based in Freetown and plays a petrol can. This hand made instrument makes a unique sound. He writes his own songs and performs with two other percussionists. One Man Geang aka Yalaba is Loko and he writes and performs in his own language. At 97, he is the oldest artists to record at WAYout. His music and his image are extraordinary. He lives a simple life but lost everything in the recent floods-except his Loko traditional clothing and drum. Each artist has 2 tracks on the compilation. Some of them are recording more and will go on to make their own albums.
